Job DescriptionThe Clinical Staff Pharmacist interprets and evaluates medication orders; enters orders into IS systems; monitors medication use based on appropriate labs, etc., and mixes intravenous, irrigation fluids, and cytotoxic agents. He/she doses drugs per protocol and assists in the selection of proper medication when requested by a physician. He/she issues controlled substances, documenting as required, and assures compliance with the requirements of regulatory and accreditation agencies. The Pharmacist provides drug information to physicians, hospital staff, patients, and the community and makes presentations as needed.
He/she assures proper inventory stock levels and assist technicians in ordering from vendors. He/she supervises and checks the work done by pharmacy technicians. He/she participates in the Pharmacy DUE and quality programs, adverse drug reaction monitoring, and participates as needed in Morehead Nursing Center drug regimen reviews, formulary review, and biogram evaluation. He/she assists with writing policies and procedures, directs or assists in special projects, and serves on committees as needed.
The pharmacist also responds to code blues and participates in the training of new employees. This position serves patient populations infant-geriatric.
