Job Description

The Academic Assistant position provides academic and administrative support to courses within the Medical Education Department that occur during different semesters to include Service Learning and Community Engagement I, II and III; Geriatric Medicine Focus Course; Medical Spanish I and II (elective course); Culture in Medicine; Advanced Interviewing Skills (component of the Family Medicine Clerkship) and other areas needed within the Medical Education department.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry 8-10 pounds, stoop, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodations.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:
Required:
  • Two years college or technical training
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to learn and use new software, scheduling systems, and web-based utility programs (e.g., Banner, Learning Management Systems, SignUp Genius, Survey Monkey, Doodle, WebEx, SciQuest, SPSS, etc.)
  • Ability to independently perform multiple tasks with accuracy and efficiency with a high attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and needs
  • Ability to perform duties in a way that advances and supports the mission of the department and university while maintaining a respectful workplace and model a positive and proactive attitude
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality; comply with HIPAA and FERPA privacy and security rules
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team
Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in higher education
